Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Dining Room Coordinator and in the capacity of the Host/Hostess, he or she will courteously and professionally greet and seat all residents and their guest into the dining room; ensure that resident's needs are being fulfilled, and that staff moral and service are continually monitored and maintained at a high level.  Helps develop staff training program and implements it with new hires during their training period.  In addition, the Host/Hostess will have the following responsibilities:

  • Seat residents courteously and comfortably.
  • Follows outlined procedures for issuing, collecting, and recording guest checks.
  • Delegate's side work schedules for all wait staff such as restocking cups and saucers, silverware polishing, cleaning stations, with hands-on inspection to ensure completion of work assigned.
  • Inspects staff at the beginning of each shift to ensure they are properly dressed; includes clean uniform, shirts tucked in, hair nets on and personal hygiene.  Also makes sure that staff maintains that appearance throughout the entire shift.
  • Assigns staff to sections and inspects each section prior to service and at the end of their shift before they leave.
  • Maintains rules of conduct and dress standards to promote professionalism and congenial working conditions in the dining rooms at Riddle Village.
  • Monitors service staff during the entire shift to make sure that they are acting in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Immediately notify management if he/she witnesses inappropriate or unprofessional behavior or incorrect procedures by staff
  • Makes sure that all service staff are tending to their tables in a timely and congenial manner and intervenes when a server gets behind in their duties by utilizing other staff or making a manager aware of the problem so that it can be corrected immediately.
  • Communicate all problems and related dining issues to management immediately and becomes part of the collective solution process.
  • May be assigned other tasks by management within other areas of the department and at varying times/shifts according to departmental needs
  • Act as a role model to service staff

 

Qualifications

  • High school graduate
  • Must like to smile, and smile often
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations.
  • Ability to organize workloads and meet time deadlines.
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written directions.
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions in the English Language
  • Must possess impeccable customer service skills
  • Must have strong organization skills
  • Must have the ability to delegate tasks
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast paced environment and maintain a professional demeanor throughout the whole shift.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure to meet timing deadlines within the dining room
  • Must have a strong sense of timing and how to apply it to a serving structure
  • Must have the ability to build a strong rapport with service staff and residents
  • Must have at least 1 year of restaurant hosting experience; 3 years' experience preferred.
  • Must have interest in working with elderly
  • Must be able to stand a majority of the time, walk short distances, stoop for and reach for food. Must be able to lift food and equipment and withstand changes in temperature going in and out of coolers and freezers with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 30 pounds for short distances with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Must be able to work a schedule of 11:30 AM to 8:00 PM, which includes every other weekend
